Sacred 3 is more a sidescrolling brawler. But more the openworld/sandbox RPG subset. The Elder Scrolls and modern interpretation of Fall Out games are not ARPG’s either. Stuff like Wizardry and the more modern Legend of Grim Rock are what you’d call Dungeon Crawlers. The Bard’s Tale would fall in this category as well. Modern releases in this are Pillars of Eternity, Tyranny and the recently released Numenera. They fall under another sub-genre of RPG called Classic RPG. They’re classified not even as a part of the ARPG category. Stuff like Baldur’s Gate, Divinity Original Sin are Isometric, but they’re not hack and slash. Games that are not Isometric are hold stuff like Yaiba, Devil May Cry, Remember Me etc To make it more confusing ARPG also has the subset Hack and Slash RPG’s. This is a fairly old genre and is about games such as Diablo, Titan Quest, Grim Dawn and the like. Isometric Hack and Slash RPG is one of them. Everything that has RPG with action is called ARPG ranging from Path of Exile/Grim Dawn all the way to Dark Souls and NioH.ĪRPG has also their sub-genres. I always wanted to find an as accurate and complete as possible list of this game genre, so let’s make this happen. This list consists of video games done in Action Role Playing Game style, which is often labeled as Hack ‘N’ Slash, or mislabeled as Dungeon Crawler, etc. It took me few hours today to make it, but I finally did it. I have decided to do some research, using YouTube top lists, websites like official pages, Steam, Wikia, Wikipedia, game alternatives, etc. Looking at YouTube top lists of “the best ARPG games” which often include MMORPG and RPG games, websites which put The Elder Scrolls V - Skyrim, Divinity 2 - Ego Draconis as “top games similar to Titan Quest, or Grim Dawn, or Diablo”. Looking for new Action Role Playing Game games for personal computer has never been easy, and sometimes a bit frustrating for me.
